Glueckert Funeral Home Continues the “Honoring Their Lives & Legacy” Series with Free Transportation & Tour of Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery

On Wednesday, September 17, 2014, Veterans and their families are invited as guests for an informational tour of the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. This has become an annual event sponsored by the Glueckert Family. Fifty six Veterans and family members will enjoy a luxury charter bus ride, a box lunch and an informal tour of our National Cemetery dedicated to honoring the lives of our Veterans.

There is no cost to attend but reservations are required for the day which will start with registration at 8:30 am at Glueckert Funeral Home. The Charter Bus departs at 9 am for the approximately 1 hour travel time. A brief presentation on Veteran’s Benefits will take place on the ride to the cemetery. Guests will receive a tour of the grounds, from an official of the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, after which they will be free to visit the graves and memorials of relatives and friends. Our charter bus will depart Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at 1pm for arrival back at Glueckert Funeral Home by approximately 2pm. A complimentary box lunch will be provided for each guest to enjoy on the return trip.

Asked what the purpose is for hosting this trip, Jackie Glueckert, an owner and coordinator of community events for Glueckert Funeral Home stated, “For a long time, our region did not have a National Cemetery nearby to honor Veterans for their service and very frankly, provide them with the benefits they so courageously earned. Every Veteran and their spouse are eligible to be buried there, complete with a concrete enclosure and grave marker. Conservatively, this earned benefit can be valued at over $14,000 for both persons eligible. It’s vital that every Veteran be aware of this benefit they’ve earned”. She added, “With the cemetery within close driving distance, families may visit as regularly as they wish. The grounds are beautiful and the sense of service and patriotism you feel there is extremely moving”.

Among the features at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery are a memorial walk, commemorating soldiers of 20th Century Wars on 11 memorials, the Blue Star Memorial Marker that is a tribute to American men and women who have served- are serving- or will serve their country and an 18-foot granite obelisk crowned by a bronze eagle with outstretched wings commemorating the 2,403 Americans who died in the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
