Arlington Heights has named its 2016 Hearts of Gold honorees, the village’s highest award for citizens who contribute to the community.

Steve Daday, a trustee for two decades, will be honored with the Community Spirit Heart of Gold for founding the Sounds of Summer concert series and his other efforts to help Arlington Heights through the years. Daday also recently was appointed the new president of the board at Metropolis Centre for the Performing Arts.

Live4Lali, a nonprofit led by Chelsea Laliberte and Genevieve Przybylo, is being honored with the Heroic Heart of Gold for training first responders on the use of naloxone, a drug that helped police save a young woman from a heroin overdose earlier this year. Live4Lali opened the suburbs’ first walk-in clinic for overdose awareness in Arlington Heights in 2015.

Carol Golemo, a physical education teacher at Thomas Middle School and former member of the U.S. Army for 25 years, will be recognized with the Volunteer Heart of Gold. Golemo has been involved with Veterans Day activities, Adopt-a-Family and several other charities over the years and was recognized with a special assembly at Thomas this week.

Glueckert Funeral Home will be honored with the Business Leadership Heart of Gold for their continued involvement in Arlington Heights, including participation in the Memorial Day parade, fundraising in the community and for offering a free annual trip that takes area veterans on a tour of the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery to teach them about their burial rights.

Other honorees are: Paul Bergman of the Arlington Stallions Rugby Club for Mentor Heart of Gold; Greg and Sue Lynk for Best Neighbor Heart of Gold; Hersey High School teacher Jackie Ballarini for Educator Heart of Gold; Buffalo Grove High School junior Danielle Allaire for Young Champion Heart of Gold; Peggy Vaughn and Rita Moody for the Young at Heart award; William Kruser for the Kenneth Bonder Beautification Heart of Gold and Melinda Camardella for the Pam Stocking Heart of Gold award.

All the winners will be honored at the Hearts of Gold Awards dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Feb 20 at Rolling Green Country Club in Arlington Heights. Tickets are $60 and available by emailing Nancy Kluz at nkluz@vah.com.
